What to Watch For:
As part of daily management, clear your dog or cat’s eyes of debris, and natural secretions (we refer to them as eye boogers). Also check for scratches on the eyes, particularly if cats meet dog or dog meets cat quite often. Cats are known for scratching eyes.
Also be aware of and be prepared to take a trip to the vet if there appears to be:
• Water eye discharge as a result of an obstacle lodged in your pet’s eye
• Pet eye discomfort that is not improving
• Pet squinting
Although corneal scratches are difficult to see up close, if they are not detected and treated immediately, they can lead to corneal ulcers which are very painful to your pet.
